60-minute 8 week session Ages 10-18
Did you know that at the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, ladies cut up original paintings in their quest for new decorations for their decoupage fans, boxes and screens? Decoupage is a French crafting technique used for centuries in decorating objects. First, students will compose paper designs or images from magazines, pictures, and various paper textures that they find personally inspiring. Students are encouraged to use their own personal photos, and images that represent who they are and what they feel. The images will then be glued on their choice of object in an overlapping technique, creating a very exciting array of colors and visual relationships. No wonder Kings and Queens preferred all their royal accessories to be decorated with this technique. Students will take home a project is both personal to them and a wonderful keepsake.
